Scoring Lufthansa First Class with Avianca LifeMiles?

Started by JFKATRNerd 1 months ago 5 replies 66 views
Hey folks, has anyone here managed to book Lufthansa First Class using Avianca LifeMiles? I've been eyeing a trip to Frankfurt next spring and heard rumors that this might be a sweet spot, but I'm not sure how realistic it is. I know Lufthansa typically opens up first class award space closer to departure, but I'm trying to figure out if it's even worth trying with LifeMiles.

I also read something about taxes and fees being kinda high, but if the redemption rate is good, maybe it's worth it? Would love to hear if anyone's had success with this or if there's a better strategy. Also, any tips on navigating the LifeMiles site would be super helpful since it seems a bit clunky at times. Thanks!
I've tried booking Lufthansa First with LifeMiles before, and yeah, it's possible, but you really have to watch for when they open up closer to the date. It can definitely be a sweet spot, but those taxes and fees can be a bit of a shocker. Make sure to check if it's worth it for you compared to other options. The LifeMiles site can be a pain, but sometimes switching to the Spanish version helps with glitches. Good luck!
I gave it a shot last year. Managed to snag a seat but it was a bit of a gamble. Lufthansa First space really does open up close to departure, like a week or two out. The taxes and fees weren't cheap, but for the experience, I found it worth it. The LifeMiles site can be a headache. Sometimes calling them works better, even though that can be hit or miss too. Keep checking and good luck!
I tried this a couple of years ago. Scored a Lufthansa First Class seat to Frankfurt using LifeMiles, but it took some serious stalking of the award space. They do open up seats last minute, which isn't ideal if you like planning ahead. Taxes and fees were on the high side, though. Navigating the LifeMiles site is a pain, but persistence pays off. Have you checked other Star Alliance partners for options? Sometimes they pop up with better availability.
I've tried it too, and patience is key. Lufthansa First can be a score with LifeMiles, but like others said, it's a waiting game for those last-minute openings. Taxes and fees can hurt, though, so weigh that against what you'd pay cash-wise. As for the LifeMiles site, yeah, it's not user-friendly. I'd suggest using a tool like ExpertFlyer to track award availability-it might save you some hassle. Have you thought about alternative routes or dates? Sometimes flexibility can help snag those elusive seats.
