Shooting at Incheon (ICN) - Best Spots and Times?

Started by Arrival341 6 hours ago 6 replies 34 views
Hey folks, I'm planning a trip to Incheon Airport (ICN) and want to make the most of my spotting time there. I've heard it's a pretty cool spot for aviation photography, but I'm not too familiar with the best places to set up or what times work best for lighting.

I'm mainly using a Nikon D850 with a 70-300mm lens. Not sure if that's the best choice or if I should consider something else. Also, any tips on dealing with security or access issues at ICN would be super helpful.

If anyone's got experience spotting there, I'd love to hear your thoughts on where to go and what to watch out for. Thanks!
Was at ICN last year. Love the spot at the Hyatt Regency's rooftop garden. It's perfect in the morning for arrivals on Runway 33R. The lighting's pretty good around sunrise. Your Nikon D850 with a 70-300mm should be fine, but a longer lens might help if you're looking for shots further out. As for security, just be respectful and follow any guidelines posted. Never had any issues myself. Have fun and happy spotting!
I've had good luck spotting near the long-term parking area. Great views of the runways, and security didn't bother me as long as I stayed clear of restricted areas. Your 70-300mm should be solid, especially for close shots. Morning light is awesome, but keep an eye on the weather-can get pretty hazy sometimes. If you want a different perspective, there's a spot near the Cargo Terminal Road that's cool for departure shots.
I've been to ICN a couple of times. The observation deck in Terminal 1 is pretty decent, especially in the afternoon when the light hits just right. Your 70-300mm should cover most scenarios, but if you have a chance to borrow a longer lens, it might help for distant runway shots. Security's pretty chill if you stick to the public areas. One thing to watch out for is the weather-it can change quick, so pack for unpredictability.
If you're up for a bit of a trek, try heading to the Sky Park area. It's a bit further out but gives you a fantastic view of the runways, especially in the late afternoon when the lighting gets softer. Security's pretty chill if you stick to public areas. Your 70-300mm should be fine. Maybe bring a wide-angle lens too if you've got one, just in case you want some wider shots of the airport itself.
Check out the area near the Cargo Terminal. It's not too crowded and offers some unique angles, especially for widebodies. Your 70-300mm will be great there. Lighting's usually nice in the late afternoon. About security, keep your ID handy and stay outside any fenced areas-never had issues when I was there. Oh, and bring snacks; there's not much around. Have a blast!
