Air Canada & WestJet Tweak Bag Fees - What's Up With That?

So, I just read that Air Canada and WestJet are changing how they set checked bag fees. Seems like they're using these fees to help deal with changes in fuel prices, especially since things are heating up in the Middle East. Airlines are always on tight budgets, so I guess it makes sense they'd look for ways to cover sudden cost jumps.

From what I can tell, instead of having a fixed price for checked bags, they might adjust prices based on oil prices. It's kinda like how we see gas prices change at the pump - but for your luggage. I'm not sure how often they'll change the fees or how transparent it'll be for passengers, but it could be a clever way to handle fuel price hikes.

I'm curious how this'll affect travelers though. Will people start packing lighter or trying to avoid checking bags altogether? And for those who travel a lot, do you think this approach is fair? Seems like a smart move for the airlines, but I'm not sure how passengers will feel about it. What do you guys think?
