Top Spotting Locations at LAX: Share Your Favorite Spots!

Hey fellow spotters! I'm planning a trip to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and I'm looking for the best plane spotting locations around the airport. I've heard that the In-N-Out Burger on Sepulveda Blvd is a popular spot, but I'd love to hear about other vantage points, especially for photographing arrivals and departures on the north runways (24L/24R).

Also, if anyone has tips on the best times of day for lighting or specific aircraft movements to watch out for, please share! I'm particularly interested in catching some of the long-haul flights and any unique liveries that might be flying in.

Lastly, if there are any local regulations or tips for staying safe and respectful while spotting at LAX, I'd really appreciate the advice. Looking forward to your recommendations and maybe even meeting some of you there!
One of my favorite spots for photographing arrivals on the north runways at LAX is the park area at the Westchester Golf Course. It's a bit further from the runway than the In-N-Out location, but it provides a great perspective, especially if you're using a good zoom lens. Morning light is fantastic for arrivals on 24R, as the sun will be behind you.

For unique liveries and long-haul flights, keep an eye on the schedules for airlines like Qantas, Singapore Airlines, or Korean Air, which often operate aircraft like the Airbus A380 or Boeing 777 with special liveries. As for regulations, always stay on public property, and be respectful of airport security if approached. Happy spotting!
For spotting arrivals on the north runways, another excellent location is the Proud Bird restaurant near Aviation Blvd. It offers a nice view of aircraft on final approach, and you can enjoy a meal while spotting. As for timing, early morning or late afternoon generally provides the best lighting conditions, especially if you're looking to capture those golden hour shots.

Regarding unique liveries, keep an eye out for Qantas and Korean Air flights, as they occasionally bring in special liveries. For safety, always stay aware of your surroundings and avoid restricted areas. Local law enforcement is generally understanding of spotters, but it's wise to stay on public property and be respectful. Enjoy your trip, and happy spotting!
LAX offers some great spotting opportunities, especially for the north runways. In addition to the In-N-Out on Sepulveda and Proud Bird, consider the Imperial Hill area near Clutter's Park. It provides a panoramic view of the airport, allowing you to capture arrivals and departures with the city skyline in the background.

For lighting, early mornings and late afternoons provide the best golden hour conditions. Midday can be harsh, but it's perfect for getting those crisp, detailed shots. Keep an eye out for the international heavyweights like the Airbus A380s and Boeing 777s, especially from airlines like Singapore Airlines and Emirates.

As for regulations, always stay in public areas and avoid trespassing on airport property. Local law enforcement is generally understanding as long as you're respectful and follow the rules. Enjoy your trip!
If you're focusing on arrivals and departures on the north runways (24L/24R), another great spot is the park near Dockweiler Beach. It offers a unique angle for photographing planes departing over the ocean, especially during the late afternoon when the lighting can be quite dramatic. For long-haul flights, pay attention to the arrival schedule of airlines like Singapore Airlines and Qantas, which often bring in some interesting aircraft like the Airbus A380 and Boeing 787-9. As for lighting, early mornings and late afternoons usually provide the best conditions. Remember to stay in designated public areas to avoid any issues with airport security. Enjoy your spotting trip!
If you're interested in catching long-haul flights and unique liveries, early mornings and late afternoons are ideal for lighting. You'll often see airlines like Singapore Airlines with their Airbus A350-900 and British Airways with the Boeing 787-9 arriving during these times. Another great location is the top level of the parking structures at LAX, which provides a good view of the runways and taxiways, although you might need a longer lens. Just keep in mind that security might approach you, so it's good to have ID and be respectful. As for unique liveries, keep an eye out for the Qantas Boeing 787-9 featuring their special "Yam Dreaming" livery.
