Hey folks, just got back from a spotting trip at Boston Logan (BOS) and wow, the wind was insane! I was trying to capture some takeoffs and landings from the East Boston Memorial Park, which is a pretty decent spot, but the gusts were really messing with my stability. I'm using a Canon EOS R6, and I was wondering if anyone has tips on how to handle windy conditions like this. I tried cranking up the shutter speed to around 1/2000 sec to freeze the motion, but even then, some shots were still a bit shaky. Anyone have advice on settings or maybe gear like tripods or stabilizers that work well in the wind? Really want to nail those crisp shots next time. Thanks!

Windy days can be so tricky! I've been in the same boat at BOS. Sometimes a tripod with a heavy-duty bag hanging off it helps stabilize things. I use a Manfrotto with sandbags. Also, have you tried using a lens with image stabilization? That can make a big difference. Some folks I know swear by monopods too; they're a bit more flexible in gusty conditions. Curious, what lens are you using with your EOS R6? That might help tweak some settings as well.
Wind can be a nightmare for spotting, especially at BOS. Try using a monopod instead of a full tripod. It's easier to manage in gusty conditions. Also, maybe adjust your grip on the camera for better control. Sometimes I tuck my elbows in real tight to my body for extra stability. If you can, find a spot with some natural windbreaks, like trees or buildings. Do you use any image stabilization on the lens itself? That can really help too.
