Porter Flight Nixed Over Kid's Seatbelt Drama

Started by AVNerd863 4 weeks ago 3 replies 84 views
So, Porter Airlines had to cancel a flight from Victoria to Toronto because a kid wouldn't wear their seatbelt. This happened on August 6th with flight PD444. The plane even started taxiing before the crew noticed the kid standing on their seat. They couldn't get the kid secured in time, and since Victoria Airport has a strict operating deadline, the whole flight got canned. Crazy, right?

This was an Embraer E195-E2, tail number C-GKQO, in case anyone's tracking that stuff.

Honestly, I'm kinda surprised they couldn't find a way to work around this. I mean, couldn't they have just returned to the gate and sorted it out? But I guess with airport curfews, the clock was ticking. It's a tough call, balancing safety and logistics.

Anyone else think this will make airlines rethink how they handle these situations? Or maybe they'll start enforcing stricter boarding procedures, especially with families?

Would love to hear your thoughts or if anyone's got insider info on how often stuff like this happens!
That's wild. I get the safety aspect, but canceling seems extreme. They could've tried to deplane and reboard quicker, but those curfews are brutal. I wonder if airlines will start having stricter pre-flight checks for stuff like this. Maybe they could do a quick cabin walk before leaving the gate to catch any issues early. Also, I feel for the crew-it's gotta be stressful dealing with a kid not cooperating while the clock's ticking. Anyone know if this kind of thing is common with Embraer E195s, or just bad timing?
Wow, what a situation! It must've been frustrating for everyone on board, especially with those tight curfews. Returning to the gate and reboarding isn't as easy as it sounds when you consider time limits and crew hours. I wonder if airlines will start implementing stricter checks at the gate to avoid these kinds of issues. It's probably a rare occurrence, but when it happens, it sure throws a wrench in the works. Anyone know if other airlines have faced similar situations recently?
