Weird Delta SkyMiles Redemption Experience - Anyone Else?

Started by RunwayYVR68 2 weeks ago 2 replies 45 views
So, I was trying to book a flight using my Delta SkyMiles for a trip to Europe next summer, and I noticed something odd. The miles required for the same route were way higher than expected. I was looking at flights from JFK to CDG, and the award calendar showed some crazy fluctuations in miles needed - like from 40k to 120k for the same route, same class, just different days!

I know Delta's been known for their dynamic pricing, but this seems a bit much. Has anyone else noticed such huge swings recently? Is there a trick to finding the lower mileage rates? Maybe booking at a certain time or day?

Also, if anyone's got tips on other SkyMiles sweet spots for Europe, I'd love to hear. Just trying to make the most of my miles without getting hit by these spikes. Thanks!
Yeah, Delta's dynamic pricing can be a real headache. I've noticed those wild swings too. It's like a lottery. One thing that sometimes works for me is checking flights mid-week. Tuesdays and Wednesdays tend to have lower mileage requirements, but it's not a guarantee. Also, try booking way in advance or super last minute. Both can sometimes yield better rates. As for sweet spots, flying into less popular European airports can sometimes be cheaper in miles. Good luck!
