Worth Chasing United 1K Status for Transatlantic Flights?

Started by Frank_Wings 2 weeks ago 2 replies 30 views
Hey folks, I've been mulling over whether to go for United 1K status this year. I mostly fly transatlantic routes, especially to Europe from the East Coast. I know the perks like upgrades and extra baggage could be nice, but I'm on the fence about the effort required to get there.

Anyone here who's already a 1K member? Is it worth the hustle? How's the upgrade availability on those long-haul flights? Also, do the United Club lounges really make a difference on those long waits at the airport?

I'm also considering if I'd be better off sticking with my current Premier Platinum status and focusing more on credit card points instead. Would love to hear some real experiences and opinions. Thanks!
Honestly, it depends on how much you fly and value those perks. I used to be 1K a couple of years back, and the upgrades were hit or miss, especially on popular routes. The lounges are nice, but if you've got Priority Pass or similar, you might not notice a huge difference. Also, the extra baggage can be a lifesaver if you travel heavy. If you're close to 1K, maybe push for it. Otherwise, credit card points can be a solid alternative. How often are you flying each year?
