Spotting at Munich (MUC) - Best Places for Shooting Departures?

Started by AVMan11 2 weeks ago 3 replies 43 views
Hey folks, I'm planning a trip to Munich and want to do some spotting at MUC. I've heard it's a great airport for photography, but I'm mostly interested in capturing departures. Anyone know the best spots around the airport for that?

I've got a Canon 90D and a 100-400mm lens, so I'm hoping to get some nice shots of planes as they take off. Not sure about the best times of day to go for lighting either. Any tips on that would be amazing!

Also, if there are any specific vantage points or challenges due to airport layout or security, I'd love to hear about those too. Thanks in advance for any advice!
For departures at MUC, try the Besucherpark. It's pretty popular, and you can get some great shots as planes take off. Your 100-400mm will definitely come in handy. Morning light is usually better, especially if you're on the east side. Another spot is near the runway 26L/08R, but check the airport's website or local spotting guides for any access restrictions or updates. Security is generally friendly, but always good to have some ID just in case. Happy shooting!
Check out the spot near the threshold of Runway 26R. It's a bit of a walk, but you get a killer view of departures. Your 100-400mm lens will be perfect there. As for lighting, mornings are usually best since the sun's at your back, but late afternoon can work too. Just keep an eye on the weather-clouds can change everything. Security's not too bad, but stay outside the fences and you should be fine. Happy spotting!
