Thoughts on Using Marriott Bonvoy Points for Suite Upgrades?

Started by TarmacYVR41 1 weeks ago 2 replies 34 views
I'm thinking about using my Marriott Bonvoy points for suite upgrades on an upcoming trip. I've got a stash of points but haven't really used them for anything other than regular redemptions before. Anyone have experience with this? Is it worth it?

I've heard mixed things about the value you get from upgrading to suites with points, especially if you're already Gold or Platinum status. Some people say it's a great use of points, others say it's better to save them for full free nights.

Also, does the process differ much between properties? I'm headed to Europe (mainly Italy and France) and wondering if anyone's had success with suite upgrades there. Any tips or tricks would be super helpful!
I've used Bonvoy points for suite upgrades a couple of times. It's hit or miss, honestly. If you're Gold or Platinum, sometimes you can snag a free upgrade at check-in without using points, so I'd check that first. But if you really want to guarantee a suite, using points can be worth it, especially in Europe where rooms are often smaller. Each property can handle it differently, so maybe call ahead to see how they handle upgrades. I'd say if you've got the points to spare and want the extra space, go for it.
