Best Way to Use Alaska Airline Miles for Hawaii Trips?

I've got a decent stash of Alaska Airlines miles and I'm itching for a trip to Hawaii. I've never used Alaska miles for this route before, so I'm curious if anyone here has experience or tips? I've heard they have some good partner redemptions.

I mostly fly out of the West Coast, so any advice on maximizing mileage value would be awesome. Should I be looking at flying direct with Alaska, or is it better to use them on a partner like American or Hawaiian?
