So I just read that Qantas and Air France are using an 8-hour 'sleep threshold' to decide when premium economy makes more sense than business class. Basically, if your flight is under 8 hours, they say it's not worth shelling out for a lie-flat seat in business. Makes sense, right? On a 7-hour flight, you'd probably only get around 3-4 hours of actual sleep after meals and announcements.
For those shorter flights, premium economy might be the better deal. You get extra legroom and better service without paying 3-4 times more for a flat bed you won't use much. I think it's pretty smart of airlines to recognize this and market their cabins accordingly.
What do you guys think? Would you go for premium economy on a shorter flight, or is business class still worth it for the perks? And for those who've flown both, is there a big comfort difference on these shorter journeys?
