Anyone Used British Airways Avios for Off-Peak Flights to Asia?

Started by PaulFrame50 • 1 months ago • 3 replies • 60 views
So I've been sitting on a pile of British Airways Avios and I'm thinking of using them for a trip to Asia. I've heard there are some great off-peak deals, but I'm not really sure when those are or if they're worth it. Has anyone had luck with this?

I know BA can hit you with some hefty surcharges, but I'm wondering if it's still a good deal compared to other programs. I was looking at flights to Tokyo or maybe Hong Kong.

Also, any tips on the booking process or finding availability would be awesome. I've heard it can be a bit of a pain.

Finally, if you've done this, how was the experience? Would you recommend it, or should I look at other options? Cheers!
I've used Avios for off-peak flights to Asia before, and it was a pretty sweet deal. Off-peak dates can save you a ton of points, but yeah, the surcharges can add up. I flew to Tokyo and it was worth it for me, even with the fees. Just keep an eye on the BA website for their off-peak calendar. Booking can be a hassle, so be ready to call if you don't see what you want online. If you've got flexibility, it's a great way to use those Avios.
Used Avios for an off-peak flight to Hong Kong last year. It was a decent deal, but the surcharges did sting a bit. Still cheaper than paying cash though. BA releases a calendar showing off-peak dates, so check that out. Availability can be hit or miss, so flexibility helps. I found the booking process a bit clunky, but manageable. I'd say it's worth it if you can snag an off-peak flight, especially since those long-haul cash tickets to Asia can be pricey.
