Canada's Using Bombardier Jets for Military Radar Planes!

Started by ApproachMSP16 • 2 weeks ago • 3 replies • 24 views
So, I just read that the Canadian military is teaming up with Bombardier and Saab to make some pretty high-tech radar planes. They're using the Bombardier Global 6500 jets and turning them into these airborne early warning and control planes, called GlobalEyes. Sounds like they're mixing Bombardier's jets with Saab's radars and sensors. Pretty cool stuff!

It's interesting how they're taking a business jet and making it into something so military-focused. I guess it shows how versatile these jets can be. Plus, it's a joint effort between Canada and Sweden, which is always nice to see in aviation.

I wonder how this will compare to other military radar planes out there. Anyone know if this is going to set a new standard or if it'll just blend in with what's already in use? And what do you think this means for Bombardier? Could this kind of collaboration boost their presence in the military sector? It's definitely a big project.

Would love to hear your thoughts on this!
Turning business jets into military radar planes is a smart move. The Global 6500 has the range and speed that make it a good fit for this kind of mission. I think it'll give Bombardier a nice boost in the defense sector. As for setting a new standard, it might depend on how well the GlobalEye performs compared to big players like the AWACS. But it's cool seeing Canada and Sweden teaming up like this. Wonder if other countries will follow suit?
Mixing civilian jets with military tech isn't new, but it's always interesting to see how it plays out. The Global 6500's range and efficiency are a big plus, but I wonder how it'll stack up against the Boeing E-7 Wedgetail or Gulfstream's G550 CAEW. Those are pretty established in the radar game. As for Bombardier, if this project succeeds, it could definitely open more doors for them in defense contracts. Anyone know if other countries are considering similar conversions?
