Spotting at Dublin Airport (DUB) - Best Times and Locations?

Started by EricFan24 • 1 weeks ago • 4 replies • 18 views
Hey everyone! Planning a trip to Dublin soon and hoping to do some plane spotting at DUB. I've never been there before, so I'm looking for advice on the best times of day and specific spots to get some good shots. I heard there's a spot near the runway that's pretty popular, but not sure exactly where it is. Also, any tips on dealing with the unpredictable Irish weather while shooting? Not really sure what the lighting's like over there, so any advice would be awesome. I'll be using a Canon 7D with a 70-200mm lens if that helps. Thanks in advance!
Try the area near the threshold of Runway 28. It's a popular spot for a reason. Mornings can be pretty great for light, especially if you're lucky with the weather. But yeah, Irish weather can be a bit wild, so maybe pack some rain gear for yourself and your camera. As for lighting, it can change quickly, but that's part of the fun, right? Your 70-200mm should work well for spotting there. Have fun!
If you're heading to DUB, definitely check out the spot near the Runway 28 threshold. It's kinda the go-to. Mornings and late afternoons can have decent lighting, but with the Irish weather, you never really know. Layers and a rain cover for your gear are a must. Also, try the spotting area near the old airport terminal. The 70-200mm should work well for most shots, but sometimes you might want a bit more reach. Ever tried using an extender with that lens?
Runway 28 is definitely popular, but also check out the car park at the Santry area. You get a good view of arrivals there. Lighting can be hit or miss with the clouds, but when the sun's out, mornings are usually nice. Keep an eye on the wind direction too; it can change the runway in use. For weather, bring a rain cover for your gear. The rain can be quick but intense. Your 70-200mm should work well for most shots. Enjoy Dublin!
