So, Lufthansa's finally decided to retire its last eight Boeing 747-400s, all phased out by 2027. They're starting with two this fall, and it's pretty much the end of an era-38 years is a long run! These things have been a solid workhorse for them, but I guess fuel and maintenance costs just aren't cutting it anymore compared to the newer planes.
The 747-400s have been great, but with four engines, they just can't compete with the newer, more efficient twins like the A350s and 787s. It seems like Lufthansa's planning to replace them with a mix of those newer models, plus the 777-9s when they finally show up. But man, it's gotta be tricky balancing all that with delivery delays and everything.
What do you guys think about this move? Do you think Lufthansa will manage the transition smoothly, or might they run into some capacity issues? And does anyone else feel a bit nostalgic about these old jumbos? It's crazy to think they stored some of these 747-400s and brought them back when demand picked up. Anyway, curious to hear your thoughts!
