So, I just read that Guangzhou Baiyun Airport is now China's busiest, overtaking Shanghai Pudong. They handled over 67 million passengers in the first 9 months of 2026. Pretty wild! This comes after their huge expansion last year - they added a new terminal and a fifth runway, which obviously helped boost those numbers.
This is quite the comeback for Guangzhou since Shanghai had been leading for a couple of years. I guess their focus on international routes really paid off, especially with all those new connections in Southeast Asia and beyond. It seems like their growth has been backed by some serious infrastructure upgrades.
I'm curious though, with the rising competition from nearby airports like Shenzhen and Hong Kong, how will Guangzhou maintain its lead? And with increasing fuel prices, do you think airlines will struggle to keep ticket costs down while using these massive airports? Let me know what you guys think!
