Hey fellow spotters! I've been using a Canon R5 for a while now and mostly shoot with a 24-105mm lens for general photography. However, I'm looking to upgrade to something more specialized for aviation spotting. I'm torn between the Canon RF 100-400mm f/5.6-8 and the Sigma 150-600mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM Sport.
I usually spot at LAX (LAX) and SFO (SFO), where there are some great vantage points but also some distance to cover. Do you think the extra reach on the 150-600mm would be beneficial, or is the 100-400mm sufficient for most situations?
Also, how do these lenses perform in terms of image quality and autofocus speed, especially for fast-moving aircraft? Any thoughts on handling heat haze with these focal lengths? Looking forward to hearing your experiences and recommendations. Thanks in advance!
