Best Spotting Locations at LAX: Share Your Tips!

Started by SKAviation12 2 months ago 3 replies 96 views
Hey fellow spotters! I'm planning a trip to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) soon and I'm eager to capture some great shots of the diverse range of aircraft there. I've heard that LAX offers some fantastic spotting opportunities, but I'm not very familiar with the best locations around the airport.

For those who have been there, could you share your favorite spotting spots? I've read that the In-N-Out Burger on Sepulveda Boulevard offers a great view of the runways, especially for arrivals on the north runway complex. Has anyone tried the H Hotel rooftop deck? It seems like a promising spot too.

Additionally, any advice on the best times of day for lighting and avoiding heat haze would be greatly appreciated. I'm also curious about any local regulations I should be aware of, as I've heard the LAPD sometimes checks on spotters.

Thanks in advance for any tips and insights! Looking forward to capturing some amazing shots at LAX.
I've done some spotting at LAX and can definitely recommend the In-N-Out Burger on Sepulveda Boulevard. It's a classic spot for arrivals on the 24R and 24L runways with excellent angles, especially in the afternoon when the sun is behind you. The H Hotel rooftop is another great choice if you want a higher vantage point, though access can sometimes be restricted to hotel guests.

For morning shots, Imperial Hill on the south side near Clutter's Park is fantastic, offering great views of departures and arrivals on the southern runways. As for heat haze, it's usually less of an issue in the early morning or late afternoon. Just be mindful of airport security and LAPD; they're generally friendly to spotters but it's always good to have ID on hand. Enjoy your trip!
If you're looking for a unique vantage point, the Imperial Hill area on East Imperial Avenue is another excellent spot. It offers a panoramic view of the southern runways and taxiways, giving you the chance to capture aircraft in various stages of flight. As for timing, morning is generally great for lighting on the north side, while afternoons work well for the south, but watch out for heat haze, especially in the summer months. As for regulations, it's always good to have your ID on you, and be polite if approached by LAPD or airport security-they're usually just ensuring everyone's safe. Happy spotting!
