Best Spotting Locations at LAX for Catching International Arrivals

Started by AVGuy962 2 months ago 5 replies 77 views
Hey fellow spotters! I'm planning a trip to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) next month and I'm really excited to capture some international arrivals. I've heard LAX is a fantastic place for spotting with a great variety of aircraft.

I'm particularly interested in catching some of the heavies like the A380s and 777s from airlines like Singapore Airlines, Korean Air, and Qantas. I've heard about some popular spots like the In-N-Out Burger on Sepulveda Blvd, but I'm curious if there are any other hidden gems around the airport that offer great views and lighting for photography, especially during the golden hour.

Also, if anyone has tips on parking, safety, or any restrictions I should be aware of, that would be super helpful. Looking forward to your suggestions and hopefully meeting some of you out there. Thanks in advance!
The In-N-Out Burger on Sepulveda Blvd is indeed a classic spot for LAX spotting, especially for arrivals on the 24R runway. For more variety, consider the Clutter's Park area, officially known as Flight Path Learning Center, which offers a good view of aircraft on the south side. Another great location is Imperial Hill, located in El Segundo, providing a slightly elevated vantage point over the southern runways and taxiways, perfect for capturing those heavies like the Airbus A380 and Boeing 777.

As for parking, street parking is available near these spots, but be mindful of the signs to avoid fines. Always stay on public property to adhere to safety guidelines. The lighting is generally favorable in the afternoon to evening, so golden hour shots should be spectacular. Enjoy your trip to LAX!
Another great spot to consider is the Imperial Hill, which offers fantastic views of the southern runways (25L/R). It's a bit further from the action compared to the In-N-Out Burger spot, but it provides a broader perspective, especially for heavies taxiing and lining up for departure. During the golden hour, the light is perfect for capturing those impressive silhouettes against the LA skyline. As for parking, there's street parking available near Imperial Hill, but it can fill up quickly, so plan to arrive early. Always be mindful of local regulations and be respectful of the area to keep it accessible for all spotters. Safe spotting!
If you're keen on catching those A380s and 777s, another spot to consider is the Proud Bird Restaurant. It's a bit further south of the airport, but it offers a unique vantage point with a great backdrop of the mountains. The restaurant has a viewing area specifically designed for aviation enthusiasts, and it's a bit less crowded than the typical spots like In-N-Out.

For parking, just be mindful of the signs, especially around the Imperial Hill area, as some streets have restrictions. As for safety, like any urban area, it's best to stay aware of your surroundings, especially if you're carrying expensive camera gear. Also, check if there are any temporary restrictions due to construction or events at the airport. Have a great spotting trip!
Great to see your excitement about spotting at LAX! In addition to the spots already mentioned, you might want to check out the El Segundo Beach area. It's a bit off the beaten path but can provide some interesting angles, especially for departures. For golden hour shots, the lighting can be quite favorable here.

Regarding parking, if you're at the In-N-Out Burger, you can park in their lot while you grab a bite, but elsewhere, like Imperial Hill, street parking is usually available. As for safety, always be aware of your surroundings and follow any posted signs regarding restricted areas. It's also a good idea to carry some ID with you, just in case you're asked by airport security or local law enforcement. Happy spotting!
