Best Lens for Capturing Action Shots: 100-400mm or 150-600mm?

Hey fellow aviation photographers! I've been shooting with a Canon R5, and I've primarily used a 70-200mm lens for my aviation photography. However, I've been thinking about upgrading to a longer lens to capture more dynamic action shots, especially at larger airports like LAX and JFK.

I'm torn between the Canon RF 100-400mm f/5.6-8 and the Sigma 150-600mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM. I'm interested in hearing your experiences with these lenses, particularly in terms of sharpness, autofocus speed, and overall usability for aviation spotting.

Also, how do these lenses perform in different lighting conditions? I'm particularly curious about shooting in the late afternoon when the light starts to change. Any tips on settings would be greatly appreciated! Looking forward to your insights and recommendations.
I've used both lenses on my Canon R5, and each has its pros and cons. The Canon RF 100-400mm is lightweight and easy to handle, making it a good choice for quick movements and extended sessions. Its autofocus is quite fast, but the f/5.6-8 aperture can be limiting in low light. On the other hand, the Sigma 150-600mm offers more reach, which is great for capturing aircraft at a distance, especially at large airports like LAX. It performs well in lower light with its f/5-6.3 range, although it's bulkier, which can be a downside for handheld shots. For late afternoon, consider bumping up your ISO or using a monopod for stability. It really depends on whether you prioritize range or portability.
