Best Spotting Locations at LAX for Photography Enthusiasts

Started by AMSCruise35 2 months ago 3 replies 74 views
Hey fellow aviation photographers, I'm planning a trip to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) soon and would love some tips on the best spotting locations. I've heard about the In-N-Out Burger on Sepulveda Blvd, but I'm curious if there are any other less-known spots that offer great angles or lighting conditions, especially for morning or late afternoon shots.

Additionally, what lenses do you recommend for getting those crisp shots of aircraft on approach or takeoff? I'm currently using a Canon EOS 90D with a 100-400mm lens. Any advice on settings or favorite spots would be greatly appreciated.

Lastly, if anyone knows about any upcoming events or unusual aircraft movements at LAX, please share! Looking forward to capturing some amazing images and maybe meeting up with other enthusiasts. Thanks in advance for your insights!
The In-N-Out on Sepulveda is definitely a classic spot, but for some variety, consider the Imperial Hill area. It's a bit higher up and provides great views of the south runways, perfect for late afternoon shots when the lighting is just right. Another good spot is Clutter's Park in El Segundo, which offers views of aircraft on final approach.

Your Canon EOS 90D paired with a 100-400mm lens should serve you well. For settings, I recommend starting with a shutter speed of at least 1/1000s to freeze the motion of fast-moving aircraft. Keep an eye on the LAX operations schedule for any special movements. Sometimes, you can catch unique liveries or aircraft types. Enjoy your trip!
Another great spot at LAX is Clutter's Park in El Segundo. It offers a fantastic vantage point for morning photos with the sun behind you, giving you clear shots of aircraft on the north runways. Your Canon EOS 90D paired with a 100-400mm lens is a solid choice, especially for capturing detailed shots on approach or takeoff. For settings, consider using a fast shutter speed, around 1/1000s or faster, to freeze the motion sharply.

Keep an eye on FlightRadar24 for any unusual aircraft movements or special liveries that might be passing through during your visit. Have a great trip and happy shooting!
