Best Spotting Locations at LAX for Night Photography

Started by Wings8367 5 hours ago 2 replies 16 views
Hey fellow spotters! I'm planning a trip to Los Angeles and I'm really interested in doing some night photography at LAX (Los Angeles International Airport). I've done some spotting during the day, but capturing aircraft under the airport lights is something I haven't experimented with yet.

I'm looking for the best locations around LAX that offer good views for night shots, especially places where you can get those dramatic landing and takeoff angles with the city lights in the background. I've heard that Clutter's Park and the In-N-Out Burger area provide some great daytime views, but I'm unsure how they fare at night.

Also, if anyone has tips on camera settings for night photography, that would be super helpful. I'm using a Canon EOS R6 with a 70-200mm lens.

Looking forward to your recommendations and hopefully sharing some amazing shots with you all soon!
For night photography at LAX, I'd recommend checking out the Imperial Hill area, also known as Clutter's Park. It offers a great vantage point of the south runways and taxiways, and at night, the airport lights provide a unique backdrop. The In-N-Out Burger area is popular too, especially for landings on Runway 24R, but it might be a bit more challenging for night shots due to the lighting conditions.

For your Canon EOS R6, try using a slower shutter speed to capture light trails, but ensure you have a sturdy tripod to avoid camera shake. A higher ISO setting, like 1600 or 3200, can help in low-light, but be mindful of noise. Experiment with aperture settings to find the perfect balance between sharpness and depth of field. Happy spotting!
