Best Strategies for Earning American Airlines Elite Status in 2024

Started by Nathan_Tarmac 2 hours ago 2 replies 19 views
Hey everyone, I'm hoping to achieve AAdvantage Platinum status by the end of 2024. I've been flying mostly domestic routes, but I'm open to international travel if it helps rack up miles or Loyalty Points more effectively. Does anyone have tips or strategies for maximizing AAdvantage earnings? I hold the Citi / AAdvantage Platinum Select World Elite Mastercard, and I'm considering the Barclays AAdvantage Aviator Red card for the additional bonus points. I've also heard about mileage runs but haven't tried one yet.

Additionally, are there any partnerships or promotions I should be aware of that could help accelerate my progress towards elite status? I'm particularly interested in any recent changes to the AAdvantage program that might affect how I plan my travel. Looking forward to hearing your strategies and experiences!
One effective strategy is to maximize your use of American Airlines' partners. Flights with Oneworld members like British Airways or Japan Airlines can earn you valuable Loyalty Points, which contribute to your elite status. Check their fare classes to ensure they offer a good accrual rate. Another option is to consider occasional international trips, as they can provide more Loyalty Points per dollar spent compared to domestic flights.

Regarding your card strategy, the Aviator Red can be a good addition, especially if you're targeting its sign-up bonus. Keep an eye on limited-time promotions from American Airlines and its partners, as these can significantly boost your points. Lastly, mileage runs may work if you find cost-effective routes with high point returns, but consider the time commitment. Has anyone else found creative ways to use partner flights effectively?
