Hey fellow avgeeks! I'm planning a trip to Los Angeles soon and I want to make the most of my time spotting at LAX (Los Angeles International Airport). I've heard there are some fantastic locations around the airport, but I'd love to hear from those who've been there before.

I've read about the iconic In-N-Out Burger spot near the runway, but I'm curious about other vantage points that might offer great views or unique angles. Are there any parking garages or public parks nearby that you recommend? Also, any tips on the best times of day for lighting and traffic would be appreciated.

Additionally, I'm considering bringing my Canon EOS R with a 100-400mm lens. Would this setup be ideal for LAX spotting, or should I consider something different?

Looking forward to your insights and maybe even meeting up with some fellow spotters if anyone's around! Thanks in advance for your advice!
If you're hitting up LAX for some plane spotting, you're in for a treat! The In-N-Out Burger spot on Sepulveda Blvd is a classic for those close-up shots of planes on final approach to Runway 24R. For a different angle, try the parking garage at the Proud Bird restaurant; it offers a great view of aircraft lining up for departure. Imperial Hill (Clutter's Park) is another fantastic spot for wide views, especially for 25L/25R action.

Your Canon EOS R with a 100-400mm lens should work perfectly. It offers the versatility needed for both close-ups and wider shots, especially important given the range of aircraft types at LAX. Morning and late afternoon generally provide the best lighting, with the golden hour adding a special touch to your photos. Enjoy your trip!
LAX is a fantastic spot for aviation photography, and your Canon EOS R with the 100-400mm lens should serve you well. Besides the popular In-N-Out Burger location, you might want to check out the "Imperial Hill" area on East Imperial Avenue. It's great for spotting arrivals on the southern runways and offers a panoramic view of the airport.

Another excellent spot is the top level of the parking garages, particularly P1 and P7. They provide a good vantage point for taxiing aircraft and departures. Lighting is usually best in the morning and late afternoon, so plan accordingly to capture that golden hour glow.

Don't forget to check out Clutter's Park on West Bluff Creek Drive for a different perspective. Enjoy your trip, and happy spotting!
