Hello fellow aviation photographers! I'm planning a spotting trip to LAX soon and I'm trying to decide on the best lens to bring. I'm currently torn between my Canon 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM and my Sigma 150-600mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM Contemporary.
I've heard that LAX offers some great spotting locations like the In-N-Out Burger on Sepulveda Blvd and Imperial Hill, but I'm concerned about the distance from the runways at certain spots. The 150-600mm has been great for long-distance shots, but I sometimes find it a bit cumbersome for quick panning. On the other hand, the 100-400mm feels more versatile and is easier to manage on the go.
I'm interested in hearing from those who have experience shooting at LAX. Which lens do you think would offer the best balance of reach and usability in this environment? Also, any tips on the best times of day for lighting at these locations would be appreciated. Looking forward to your insights!
