Maximizing Points for Business Class to Asia with AAdvantage

Started by GaryMAX 2 hours ago 2 replies 31 views
Hey everyone! I'm planning a trip to Asia next year and I'm trying to maximize my AAdvantage miles for a business class redemption. I've been collecting miles through a combination of flights and my Citi AAdvantage Platinum Select card.

I'm primarily looking at routes to Tokyo (NRT or HND) or Seoul (ICN) from the West Coast, ideally flying on either American Airlines or one of their oneworld partners. Has anyone had any luck finding good award availability on these routes?

Also, I'm curious if there are any sweet spot redemptions I might be missing, particularly with partners like Japan Airlines or Cathay Pacific. Any tips on when to book or how to find those elusive saver awards?

Lastly, if you have any experience with the Admirals Club lounges at LAX or SFO, I'd love to hear your thoughts on whether they're worth a visit. Thanks in advance for any advice or insights you can share!
I've found that booking as early as possible, typically when the schedule opens around 331 days out, can increase your chances of snagging a business class award seat to Tokyo or Seoul. Japan Airlines is often a great choice with AAdvantage miles, as they're part of oneworld and offer excellent service. Cathay Pacific is another strong option, although their availability can be hit or miss. Keep an eye on off-peak travel dates for better availability. As for the Admirals Club lounges at LAX and SFO, they offer decent amenities, but they can get crowded at peak times. If you have access, the Flagship Lounge at LAX offers a more premium experience. Happy travels!
