Best Lenses for Capturing Departures: 70-200mm vs. 100-400mm

Hi everyone! I'm looking to up my aviation photography game, especially when it comes to capturing those exciting takeoff shots. I've been using a Canon R5 with a 24-105mm lens, but I feel like I need more reach to really capture the action, especially at larger airports like LAX or JFK.

I'm torn between investing in a 70-200mm lens or going for the 100-400mm. I know the 70-200mm f/2.8 is great for its low light performance, but I'm wondering if the extra range of the 100-400mm would be more beneficial for spotting at a distance, particularly when shooting from public observation areas.

Does anyone have experience with both lenses in the context of aviation photography? How does the image quality compare, especially when cropping in post? Also, if you've used either lens at busy airports, what are your thoughts on handling heat haze and maintaining sharpness?

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and any sample shots would be greatly appreciated!
