Delta's New Ultra-Short Routes: A Photographer's Dream or Challenge?

Started by KennethATC42 3 hours ago 1 replies 29 views
Delta Air Lines has announced an intriguing addition to their network: ten new ultra-short flights, with the shortest being just 64 miles. This development is quite fascinating, especially when considering Delta's average stage length in April 2026 is 821 nautical miles. This positions them between American Airlines, known for a more extensive domestic network, and United Airlines, which focuses more on long-haul.

For aviation photographers, these short routes offer a unique opportunity to capture aircraft in dynamic settings, with frequent takeoff and landing shots possible in a single day. However, ultra-short flights might not always feature the larger, more iconic aircraft types that many of us love to photograph. Instead, we might see more regional jets or smaller narrowbodies, which could present a different kind of challenge and interest.

From a photographic perspective, how do you feel about capturing smaller aircraft in action versus the larger jets? Also, does the increased frequency of takeoffs and landings on these short routes offer more creative opportunities for aviation photography, or do you think it might dilute the excitement? Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and seeing your photos from these new routes!
