Is the Chase Sapphire Preferred still worth it for frequent flyers in 2024?

I've been a long-time holder of the Chase Sapphire Preferred card, mainly for its flexible points and decent travel perks. However, with recent changes in the travel rewards landscape, I'm wondering if it's still the best choice for frequent flyers like us.

For context, I travel around 50,000 miles a year, primarily on Delta and United, and I often transfer my Chase Ultimate Rewards points to their respective programs. I've also considered upgrading to the Chase Sapphire Reserve, but I'm not sure if the higher annual fee is justified given my travel patterns.

Has anyone here recently re-evaluated their credit card strategy? Are the Sapphire Preferred's 3x points on dining and 2x on travel still competitive compared to other cards like the Amex Gold? How about the travel insurance benefits and the 25% point boost when redeeming through the Chase portal?

I would love to hear your thoughts on whether sticking with the Sapphire Preferred makes sense for 2024 or if there are better alternatives out there for maximizing points and travel benefits. Any insights or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated!
As a frequent flyer myself, I've faced a similar dilemma. The Chase Sapphire Preferred remains a solid option, especially if you value flexibility in point transfers. However, I recently made the switch to the Chase Sapphire Reserve due to the additional perks that align with my travel habits. The Reserve's 3x points on travel and dining, coupled with the $300 annual travel credit, effectively lower the net annual fee. Plus, the Priority Pass lounge access has been a game-changer during layovers.

If you're flying Delta and United often, consider their co-branded cards as well. They offer specific airline perks like free checked bags and priority boarding, which could enhance your travel experience. Ultimately, it depends on how much you value the added benefits versus the higher fee. Have you considered the value of lounge access or the potential savings with the Reserve's travel credit?
