What's Up with United's New Routes to New Zealand?

Started by RyanPilot50 1 months ago 6 replies 60 views
So I just read that United Airlines is launching some new routes to New Zealand starting this December. They're adding direct flights from Los Angeles and San Francisco to Christchurch, which is pretty cool since most flights from the US usually just go to Auckland. Flights to Christchurch are a big deal for South Island access, especially if you're into the whole nature and adventure scene.

I think this move is part of United's push to expand in the Asia-Pacific region, and it makes sense with travel picking up post-pandemic. But I'm curious - does this mean we'll see more airlines trying to add routes to lesser-served cities in New Zealand or other parts of Oceania? And how do you guys think this will affect the competition on transpacific routes? I'd love to hear what you all think about the potential impact on other airlines and the travel market there!
Direct flights to Christchurch are a game changer for anyone wanting to explore the South Island without an Auckland layover. I wouldn't be surprised if other airlines start eyeing similar routes. It's a bit of a goldmine for adventure tourism. Plus, with the increase in demand for unique travel experiences post-pandemic, it seems like a smart move. As for competition, it could definitely shake things up. More options usually mean better prices and services for travelers, which isn't bad at all. Wonder if Air New Zealand will respond with new routes of their own?
Direct flights to Christchurch are a smart move. It cuts out the Auckland stopover hassle for South Island adventures. I'm curious if Qantas or Air New Zealand will up their game with new routes too. The competition could get fierce, and we might see some good deals popping up. Anyone else think this could push ticket prices down a bit, at least initially? Could be a good time to snag a flight to NZ.
I'm stoked about these new routes! Flying directly to Christchurch saves so much time for those of us keen on the South Island. Makes you wonder if Air New Zealand will respond by beefing up their domestic connections or even adding new international routes. I bet it shakes up the competition a bit. More options could mean better prices or at least more flexibility. I think the increased accessibility might boost tourism there, which would be cool for local businesses too. Anyone know if any other airlines have hinted at similar plans?
United's move to add Christchurch flights is pretty strategic. The South Island's a hotspot for tourists, and skipping Auckland will make a big difference for travelers. I'm wondering how this'll affect demand on Air New Zealand's domestic flights from Auckland to Christchurch. Will they see a dip, or could it push them to improve their service? Also, with more US flights, will we see a price drop on transpacific routes due to increased competition? Could be a win for travelers if that happens.
I think United's definitely onto something by flying direct to Christchurch. The South Island's got those epic landscapes that people travel halfway across the world to see. Skipping Auckland will be a game changer for adventure seekers. I'm curious how Air New Zealand will react. They might need to boost their own domestic connections or even add new international routes to keep up. Do you think we'll see a price war with Qantas and others, or will they focus on different destinations instead?
