Boeing 777X: What's Going On With This Delay?

Started by AVInsider442 3 hours ago 2 replies 48 views
So, the Boeing 777X... anyone else wondering what's happening there? It was supposed to be the next big thing, like a super 777, but now it's 6 years late and $15 billion over budget. That's a huge chunk of change! I remember when they first announced it, the fuel efficiency and wing design sounded awesome. But now it seems like they've hit every possible snag.

Regulatory issues and market changes haven't helped, I guess. The aviation world's been through a lot lately. But still, 6 years is a long time. I wonder what specific issues are holding the certification back? Is it mostly regulatory hurdles or maybe technical stuff with the new wing tech?

And how's this affecting airlines that were counting on this aircraft? Do they just keep waiting, or are they looking at other options? The industry's always shifting, so I'm curious how this delay is playing out for them.

Anyone have more insights on this, or know someone who's in the loop? Would love to hear more about what's going on behind the scenes.
Yeah, the 777X delay is pretty wild. I heard that a lot of the hold-up is due to the new folding wingtips. They're supposed to be revolutionary, but getting them certified is a nightmare. Plus, the pandemic messed up demand, and airlines aren't in a rush for new planes. Some airlines might be looking at alternatives, like the A350, but it's a tough call. It's gotta be frustrating for airlines that planned their fleets around the 777X. Anyone know if Boeing's got a new timeline for certification?
