ITA Airways Heads to the Caribbean - First Stop: Santo Domingo!

Started by Linda_Runway 2 hours ago 1 replies 49 views
So ITA Airways is finally dipping its toes in the Caribbean waters with a new route to Santo Domingo starting Nov 2026. Pretty interesting move since it's their first time in that region. They're kicking things off with just one weekly flight, then bumping it up to two by mid-December. Seems like they're testing the waters before going all in.

They're using the Airbus A330neo for the route, which makes sense for a leisure-heavy destination like this. It's got the right mix of economy and premium seats for all sorts of travelers. Plus, it's part of ITA's plan to make Rome Fiumicino more of a hub for long-haul flights.

I'm curious how this will play out. Will they be able to attract enough travelers beyond just the holiday crowd? And do you think this is a sign that ITA will expand more in the Caribbean, or is this just a one-off? Could be a sign of more long-haul routes to come. What do you guys think?
