Panning Tips for Capturing Fast Jets at Denver (DEN)

Started by GregoryCamera79 2 hours ago 2 replies 33 views
Hey folks, I've been trying to improve my panning shots, especially with the faster jets at Denver International (DEN). It's definitely a challenge to get that smooth motion blur with the Rockies in the background. I'm using a Canon R6 with a 70-200mm lens, and I struggle to find the right balance between shutter speed and sharpness.

I've heard some people suggest starting at 1/125 sec, but that seems hit or miss for me. Do you guys have any tips on settings or techniques for nailing those crisp shots? Also, any specific spots around DEN that are better for practicing panning? Would love to hear what works for you all. Thanks!
I feel you on the challenge at DEN. Panning those fast jets can be tricky. I've had some luck with starting at 1/200 sec and gradually slowing down as I get more comfortable. It's all about finding that sweet spot for your style. As for spots, try the parking lots near the runways. They give you a good angle and some space to practice. Also, keep your elbows tucked in for better stability. Do you use image stabilization on that lens? It might help a bit with sharpness.
