China Eastern A350 bumps into boarding bridge at Shanghai - What happened?

So, this is kind of wild. A China Eastern Airlines Airbus A350-900 just had a bit of a mishap at Shanghai Airport. The plane was coming in from Chengdu and everything seemed fine until it was taxiing to the gate. Then it somehow ended up crashing into the boarding bridge! Yikes.

The airline is saying it was a mechanical malfunction at low speeds. I've seen a short video of it online, and it looks like the plane just went too far. Thankfully, it sounds like no one was hurt, which is a relief. But imagine being on that flight and having it end like that!

I'm curious - what kind of mechanical malfunction could cause something like this? I mean, aren't there a ton of safeguards in place to prevent planes from hitting stuff on the ground? It's not every day you hear about something like this happening, especially with a big A350.

Does anyone know if this kind of thing has happened before? And how do airlines usually handle these situations? Would love to hear what you all think!
