Ever Wondered What Happens to Old Planes? Check Out Boneyards!

So, I was reading about aircraft boneyards and thought it was pretty fascinating. These places are where planes go when they're retired or just taking a break. Some boneyards have thousands of aircraft just hanging out, either waiting to be scrapped or maybe even returning to service one day. It's cool how they pick spots with the best climate to store these planes-dry conditions slow down weathering, which makes sense.

The biggest ones are in the U.S., like the famous one in the Mojave Desert. But they're spread all over the world, from Europe to Australia. It's like a plane retirement home! Kind of sad but also neat to think some of these planes might get a second chance.

I wonder how they decide which planes to store and which to scrap? And does anyone know if they ever let people visit these boneyards? Always thought it'd be interesting to walk around one. What do you guys think about boneyards-are they just a practical necessity or do they have a bit of a nostalgic vibe for you too?
I always thought boneyards were like giant history books just sitting in the desert. Each plane's got its own story. I read that the dry climate in places like Arizona helps preserve them, which is why so many end up there. Not all boneyards are open to the public, but some do offer tours, like the Pima Air & Space Museum in Tucson. Definitely a mix of practicality and nostalgia for me. Would love to hear if anyone's been on one of these tours!
