Getting Creative with Backlit Shots at Toronto Pearson (YYZ)

Started by ClickRoute96 20 hours ago 2 replies 23 views
Hey folks, I've been trying to up my game with backlit shots, and Toronto Pearson (YYZ) seems like a perfect spot for some creative challenges. The way the light hits in the late afternoon can be tricky but also stunning with the right settings.

I usually stick to ISO 100 with a higher shutter speed to capture the detail, and I'm experimenting with different apertures to get that nice silhouette effect. Anyone else have tips on getting the balance right?

Also, any specific locations around YYZ you guys recommend for setting up these kinds of shots? I've mostly been around the runways but curious if there are other angles I should check out. Would love to hear your experiences or see some examples if you've got 'em!
Backlit shots can be tricky but look amazing when done right. At YYZ, try heading to the parking garage near Terminal 1. You get a nice elevated view, and if you're lucky, you might catch some planes with the skyline in the background. For settings, I've found bumping up the ISO a bit when the sun's really low can help. Maybe try ISO 200 or 400? Also, experimenting with the white balance can add some cool effects depending on the time of day.
