Ever Wondered How Fuel Efficient a Boeing 747-8 Really Is?

So, I was reading about how many miles per gallon (mpg) the Boeing 747-8 gets, and it's kind of mind-blowing. I mean, we all know the 747 is this legendary aircraft, right? With that distinctive hump and all, it's been turning heads since the 70s. But let's talk numbers-this massive plane gets about 0.2 mpg. Yeah, not what you'd expect from your car, but considering it's carrying hundreds of people across oceans, it's not too shabby for an aircraft of its size!

Just think about it-it's got that huge capacity, carrying a lot more passengers than your average plane, which sort of balances things out in terms of efficiency. Still, it's wild to compare that to, say, a tiny car. Makes me wonder about the kind of math that goes into optimizing fuel efficiency for something that big.

Do you guys think bigger planes like the 747-8 are still the way to go, or is the industry leaning more towards smaller, more fuel-efficient aircraft? Also, with all the talk about sustainability, how do you think future designs will balance these factors?
