Oops! BA Rookie Attendant Deploys 777 Slide - Major Delay

So, get this - a new British Airways flight attendant, just on their second day, accidentally deployed an emergency slide on a Boeing 777! This happened while the plane was pushing back at Heathrow, heading for Washington Dulles. It's kinda surprising how much one mistake can cost - over $100k just for a slide! Plus, the passengers had to wait a whopping six hours before actually taking off.

I can't even imagine the stress that attendant must've felt. I'd be freaking out if I was in their shoes. This whole incident makes me wonder about the training process for new attendants. I mean, you'd think they'd be super vigilant about making sure everyone knows not to touch those things unless it's a real emergency.

Also, how common is this kind of mistake? It feels like we hear about it every now and then, but is it actually a regular issue? Anyone here have experience working as a flight attendant and can share some insight? Anyway, just another day in the crazy world of aviation, right?
That's a rough way to start a career! Those slides are no joke, super expensive and a huge hassle. I remember reading somewhere that airlines have to replace the slide entirely once it's used, which explains the cost. As for how often it happens, it's rare but not unheard of. Mistakes happen, especially with new staff under pressure. Training's probably thorough, but maybe there should be more hands-on practice with these things? Anyone know if airlines do simulation training for stuff like this?
