UPS wants more freedom to fly from Hong Kong - what's the deal?

So I saw that UPS is looking to get some extra fifth freedom rights from Hong Kong. For those who aren't familiar, fifth freedom rights let airlines fly between two foreign countries as long as the flight starts or ends in the airline's home country. Kinda like a bonus leg on a journey. It's a pretty handy setup for cargo carriers like UPS.

I'm guessing they're trying to expand their operations in Asia, maybe to compete better with other big players like FedEx and DHL. Hong Kong's such a key hub, so it makes sense they want more flexibility there.

But what I'm wondering is, how often do these requests get approved? Does anyone know how competitive it is to get these rights in HK?

Also, do you think this could impact prices or service for other cargo companies operating in the region? I mean, more competition usually means better deals, right? Anyway, curious to hear what you all think about this move by UPS!
Yeah, it's all about positioning themselves better in the Asian market. Hong Kong's a major hub, so getting more fifth freedom rights would be a big win for UPS. These rights can be tough to snag because of the competitive nature of the aviation market there. But if they manage to get them, it could shake things up a bit. More competition usually helps drive prices down, so it could be good for businesses relying on cargo services. Wonder if it'll push FedEx and DHL to make some moves too.
