Just read about the UPS crash from 2025. The NTSB released cockpit audio from that UPS Flight 2976 disaster in Louisville. It's pretty chilling stuff. They say the MD-11 lost its left engine right after takeoff, and all three pilots were killed. Turns out, there was a last-minute plane swap involved. Makes you wonder if that played a role in what happened.
I can't stop thinking about how last-minute changes can affect a flight. Do they really check everything thoroughly when they swap planes like that? I know they must have procedures, but it just seems like a lot of pressure.
Also, with the MD-11s being older aircraft, does this raise questions about their reliability? I mean, I know they're workhorses in the cargo world, but should there be more scrutiny on them?
Would love to hear what you guys think about this. Does anyone know how common these last-minute swaps are? And how do crews handle the stress when things change so suddenly?
