So, I just read that the US Air Force is planning to scrap 119 F-15E Strike Eagles and keep just 99 of them. Kinda wild, right? These jets have been around for a while and have a pretty solid combat record. From what I gather, the plan is to focus resources on newer tech, like those sixth-gen warplanes that are supposed to be joining the fleet soon.
The 99 F-15Es they're keeping have better engines and upgraded systems, so it seems like they want to maintain a core group that's still super capable while they transition. Makes sense, I guess, but I'm curious how this downsizing will affect their operations in the near term? I mean, that's a big drop in numbers.
Also, with other countries still using older jets, I wonder if the US moving to newer tech will push others to do the same faster. What do you guys think? Is this a smart move to stay ahead, or could it leave them short-handed for a bit? Would love to hear your thoughts!
